Westmoreland County is getting over one-million dollars to support pollution cleanup at Brush Creek in North Huntingdon Township. The federal money will be used to build a bridge over the creek to a spot where a mine drainage treatment plant could be situated in the future. The long-term goal is to pump out the water that drains from the abandoned Biddle Mine and remove anything harmful before pumping it back out to Brush Creek. Officials say it could be seven to ten years before all of the planning is completed and funding is together to make that goal a reality.
