Officials at Hempfield Area Schools are hoping to get state grant dollars to help cover the cost of weapons detectors. School leaders have applied for 450-thousand dollars in funding through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. The school board has not approved a purchase of any scanner system, but they did test detectors in February that allow students to walk through without having to remove their backpacks. The interim superintendent says a presentation on the system will likely be shared with the board after they have funding to purchase them available.
