This year marks the 100th anniversary of the installation of the Doughboy statue in Mt. Pleasant. The Trib reports that the statue was originally erected during World War I to honor the community’s soldiers from all wars at the intersection of Main and Diamond streets. The current doughboy is the fifth iteration of the statue as it has been knocked over a few times. A program to honor the centenary of the statue will be held after the Veteran’s Day parade and ceremonies at Veterans Park.
