Unity Township’s supervisors have approved doubling property taxes, marking the first tax hike for the township in 50 years. The Trib reports that property taxes are now at 4.4 mills, which is expected to cover increases in costs for asphalt, salt and public works pipes. Supervisors also agreed to a tax hike from two mills to three to help six local fire departments in the Township’s Fire Bureau.
