New Kensington’s Zoning Board has approved a special use permit for a proposed after-school STEM academy. The Trib reports that the non-profit R&D Impact Foundation plans to open a SparX Academy on Fifth Avenue in New Ken. According to Thomas Roberts Sr., the foundation’s treasurer, R&D proposed a “significant remodeling” for the building to add classrooms and other features. Though already zoned as a commercial building, the building’s educational use required the permit to continue on to the next steps.
