The US Secret Service is taking over the investigation into the bilking of an elderly South Huntingdon woman. The Trib reports that the case is now in the hands of federal investigators as the crime crossed state lines, according to Trooper Brendan Hill. State police said someone sent messages saying that the victim’s Amazon account was hacked and a scammer claiming to be with the Federal Trade Commission requested payments to resolve the issue, starting at $9000 in cash and then two certified checks for over $70,000 each. No charges have been filed as of yet.
