Westmoreland County Sheriff James Albert has announced he has withdrawn from an agreement with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials. In his statement, Albert said that the reason was based solely on the fact that the Sheriff’s office did not own, operate, or manage the county prison. Albert stated that his office will continue to work with federal, state and local agencies and officers. Albert signed the agreement last september to enable sheriff’s deputies to serve as backup to ICE activities in the county, but Commissioners sought to have the agreement terminated.
