In 1958 John Lennon’s mother, Julia, was killed by a car driven by an off-duty police officer Liverpool, England.
In 1963 Paul McCartney was fined just over 30-dollars for speeding and his license was suspended for one year.
In 1968 Creedence Clearwater Revival released the group’s self-titled debut album.
In 1973 Ray Davies announced he was leaving the Kinks. He returned to the group within a week. A drunk driver killed Clarence White of The Byrds while he was loading equipment after a gig in Palmdale, California.
In 1989 Pink Floyd performed a free concert in Venice, Italy. Residents complained about the noise, littering, and drug use at the show.
In 2005 Queen + Paul Rodgers performed a concert in London’s Hyde Park. The show had been originally scheduled for a week earlier, but was cancelled in the wake of the terrorist attack on the London transit system. In addition, the band offered free tickets to emergency services workers as a way of expressing appreciation to the efforts of first responders.
In 2009 Forty-five years after he played at the Ed Sullivan Theater with The Beatles, Paul McCartney returns to the venue to appear on “The Late Show With David Letterman.” Sir Paul also performed outside on the marquee of the building.
In 2010 Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry was hospitalized after being hit by a car while riding a motorcycle in Middleboro, Massachusetts. He only suffered minor injuries and was treated and released within a few hours.
In 2011 Paul McCartney made his concert debut at New York’s Yankee Stadium with the first of two shows at the ballpark.
In 2015 Robbie Williams made a surprise appearance at an auction selling some of his memorabilia for charity.
In 2022 Elton John started the North American leg of his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road: The Final Tour” in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
