Westmoreland County Transit Authority board members are considering a nearly 25% increase in fares for the agency’s senior rideshare program and for those who receive social service benefits. The Trib reports that if the hike is approved at today’s meeting, it will be the first fare increase for the program since 2018. Fares on the fixed-route service would not be affected. Under the proposed increase, qualifying seniors would pay a slightly higher portion of the fares. The out-of-pocket cost to seniors for trips of less than 2 miles would increase by 75 cents to $3.15. Co-pay fares for trips of 25 miles or longer would jump to $11.25.
