STATE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION REVIEWING PARCEL IN WESTMORELAND AND FAYETTE COUNTIES

The state Department of Environmental Protection is reviewing an 11,000 acre parcel in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties to determine if it is suitable for mining.  The Trib reports that the review is for the Donegal and Mt. Pleasant township areas that contain LCT Energy LP’s Rustic Ridge Mine 1 and the proposed Rustic Ridge Mine 2.  The study based on a petition from the Mountain Watershed Association, which claimed mining would impact the watersheds of Four Mile Run and Jacobs Creek.
