DERRY TOWNSHIP WOMAN LOSES $5K IN SECRET SERVICE SCAM

The Westmoreland County DA’s office reported that a Derry Township woman lost $5,000 to a scam caller claiming to be with the U.S. Secret Service.  The Trib reports that the victim, identified as a 67-year-old woman, told state troopers she received several phone calls from multiple numbers with a Washington, D.C., area code. The caller said they were an agent with the Secret Service and requested money in relation to a federal case.  She was ordered to buy several Visa gift cards from Walmart and send the numbers to the caller.  The DA’s office says people should not provide personal information or payments of any kind, and people should hang up and report any such calls to local law enforcement.
