WESTMORELAND COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFFS COULD FACE DISCIPLINARY ACTION AFTER THE IMPROPER JAILING OF JEANNETTE MAN

Up to four Westmoreland County Deputy Sheriffs could face disciplinary action as a result of the soon-to-be completed investigation into the improper jailing of a Jeannette man earlier this month.  The Trib reports that an internal probe was conducted by Sheriff James Albert into the false arrest and imprisonment of Larry Miller, Jr. of Jeannette on an arrest warrant issued years earlier for a Schuykill County man with a similar name.  Miller was taken into custody and placed in a holding cell for hours before he was transported to the Westmoreland County Prison in Hempfield. He remained locked up in the jail for about three hours before jail guards released him.  Miller claimed that deputies never checked into his identification.  While Sheriff Albert declined to identify the deputies involved, he said discipline will be imposed, including written and verbal admonishments, suspensions and terminations.
