The owner of a Pittsburgh funeral home charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from people paying for pet cremation services is expected to take a plea deal. WTAE-TV reports that a jury trial for Patrick Vereb has been cancelled and a plea hearing is set for October 22nd. The Pennsylvania Attorney General charged him with improperly disposing of thousands of dogs and cats after their owners paid for cremations in Westmoreland and Allegheny Counties. An investigation revealed that in some cases, he provided the wrong remains to the individuals and dumped many pet remains at a landfill. No word yet on the terms of the deal.
