Senator John Fetterman is calling a recent Wall Street Journal piece about him “smears” and “half-truths.” The report says the Pennsylvania centrist Democrat stood up three disabled veterans by faking an illness to avoid the meeting and tried to get out of a meeting with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia last year. Fetterman said in a statement to CNN on Sunday said that “no matter how many smears or stories, I’m proud to continue to deliver for Pennsylvania,” and also criticized the Journal for sharing text messages “stripped of any context and circumstances.” One of those text exchanges about the Children’s Hospital shows Fetterman asking why he needs to meet with them, saying “I’m convinced they just want free trips to D.C.”
