The Westmoreland County Sheriff’s office is asking why a new dog is not on the force as of yet. The Trib reports that last spring, a two-and-a-half year old German shepherd mix named Makro was donated to the department and his handler, Deputy Joshua Porter. But it has been over 100 days and 19 meetings and there has been no memorandum of understanding for the county to officially approve Makro for active duty. Commissioners are saying they are in favor of the dog, but bringing a police dog on takes time.
