A trial over Westmoreland County Sheriff James Albert’s challenge of GPS tracker rules is now postponed. Hearings were supposed to start yesterday, but they have been delayed to November to give county officials more time to discuss a settlement. In 2024, Westmoreland County commissioners approved a policy that requires GPS trackers to be installed in all county-owned vehicles, including those used by the sheriff’s office. Sheriff Albert pushed back against the rule, claiming the trackers posed a safety risk for deputies. An injunction related to the lawsuit that was signed in October of 2024 has kept the sheriff’s office from having to install the GPS devices up until now.
